Who's your top team in 2007?

Who's your 2006 Top team
Aug 8th iss the first day of official practice for many teams across the state. While some teams might not have an idea of how things are shaping up until later this month, many of you already have your own opinions. Well post them here.

Give us your top team, either in the state, class, conference or local area. Tell us why you think they are a team to watch and how far they'll go in the playoffs.

Only 18 more days till kick off. Are you ready?

Nice call. Morrison made a great run last year, going 11-2 before falling 21-20 to Westville in the Semifinals. Could be a good rematch.

I know Westville will be returning running back  Caleb Pratt who had just over 2,000 yards last year for the Runner-up Tigers.

I actually think Aurora Christian will put it all together this season and make a nice run in the playoffs behind 3rd year starter Jordan Roberts.

Mahomet-Seymour is my top team this year.  With 28 quality seniors and a nice bunch of juniors to compliment the seniors, Mahomet should have a good year.  The only question mark to this years team is who is going to step on at the WR position?  Our running game is going to be great, but if teams like PC change their defense and put 8 in the box, who is going to make the big play downfield to spread out their defense?  My best guess is on Corey Christianson.  (probably misspelled his name)  He is our best bet to stretch it down field.

My pick would be Mt. Carmel, down in Wabash County. They will feature a very talented group of seniors who have played together and enjoyed success in many sports as well as many talented juniors, plus they are HUNGRY for a title.

Should be interesting to see how York does this year. Could have a bit of a challenge to repeat the 2006 semi-final performance,
as a lot of key players graduated, but you
ve got RB Mike McNulty (800 yards rushing  5 TDs) Fullback John Hanisch & OL Neil Deiters (6'8 310lbs) will be two key returning starters.

Also key will be how traditional tough programs like, Downers South & North along with Hinsdale Central will be this year. Could be the key difference between a an 9-0 season or a 6-3. Also, week one Highland Park returning QB Johhny Lindquist could make the Giants a condender this season.

I am thinking the WIVC north and south will be very tough this year.

North
Jacksonville Routt will be my first selection. They made it to the elite 8 last year losing to Mt. Olive who lost to Tuscola. Routt returns most of their starters.

Triopia could beat Routt

Brown County carrys this same potential

South
Carrollton - Of course I am going to pick MY team as the #1 team in the conf.

Greenfield-Northwestern (coop) is on the upswing and should be tough this year.

Hardin (Calhoun) is said to be in a down swing, but they have the Black Reign to protect. 17 straight playoff appearances, 21 of the last 22.

My long shot pick. Pleasant HIll. They have had young teams the last few years. Those boys have to grow up sometime and I think it is this year. Don't think they will win the conference, but I bet you see a 1-8 team from last season make the playoffs this season.

1A - If Carrollton does not win state, and Jacksonville Routt does not represent the WIVC there, then I pick Tuscola. Tuscola probably has the best chance at repeating in my opinon.

5A - Once again I have favorites
Metamora is my first choice, then Jacksonville, then Jerseyville.

6A - I have turned into a SHG fan. Go cyclones.

Should be a good game tonight Morrison vs. Newman.  That game will set the pace for the season.  Tough opener for both teams.  I predict Newman by 13.

i dont think newman will win this game by 13 points b/c other than one blowout in 2004, when morrison had a sub par team, morrison has given newman fits for the last 10 years or so. it doesnt matter if morrison has had a good or bad team newman really doesnt play well against them as of late. i honestly dont no whose gunna win this game but i really do think the winner will be by a 8 points or less

Lena- Winslow is probably the  best  NWIC  team and will  make  a run  for   state title.   Forreston is  good  but  has shown they  can  never  win the  "big" games.   Dakota could threaten in  1a if they  can  put  a whole  game  together.  Lena - Winslow has size,  speed  and talent
