Preview of Mahomet-Seymour vs. Pontiac

On Friday, the 9th of September at Mahomet-SeymourHigh School, M-S squares off against one of their hated rivals Pontiac.  This game has huge implications on what is going to come for the rest of the season.  M-S has a chance on Friday night to put them at the top of the Corn Belt Conference.  Both teams will be playing for bragging rights and a chance at the conference championship.  The winner of this game will have a who lot of confidence for the rest of the season.

M-S will have to utilize their sound running game in order to have success Friday night.  Andrew Brewer, the offensive line and the rest of the RB posse need to have their game faces on and control the battle up front.  More than likely, Pontiac will come at Mahomet with at least 8 or 9 guys in the box while blitzing the Mahomet from all directions.  Pontiac will have to confuse M-S with their defensive looks, as well as penetrate the offensive line.  I do not see this happening, and I believe Mahomet's offensive line will be successful Friday night, allowing the running backs to go over 120 yards for the night.  If Mahomet blocks better than expected, that total could be well over 120.

Pontiac has a new coach at the helm.  The new coach coached the 2003 Pontiac runner-up team while then Coach Peterson was on probation for illegal recruiting.  Pontiac will come in with a new offense and most likely a new defense.  Pontiac beat up on Prairie Central last week beating them 41-8.  Pontiac is returning a good running back, which was first team all-conference in 2006.  Mahomet's defense will have their hands full trying to keep contain, but Mahomet has speed on the field and a good scheme that will contain Pontiac's running backs.  Look for Mahomet to give up close to 100 yards on the ground.  The key for Mahomet is will they be able to stop the passing game?  I don't know how good Pontiac's passing game is, but Mahomet has not been tested either through the air or on the ground, and this game Friday night will be a good test of both.

Mahomet will have success Friday night, in which I predict will be a close game until the closing minutes of the game.  Watch out for Mahomet's passing game, if Lyle can keep the defense honest, and not allow Pontiac to put 10 guys in the box, Mahomet will be able to run the ball consistently all night.  On defense, Mahomet will have to keep containment with their defense ends, as well as their outside linebackers.  Mahomet will struggle early but I believe their will adjust fairly quickly and contain Pontiac's star running back.

If you plan on making it out to Mahomet, Dawgapoolza is this Friday night from 5-7.  There will be plenty of food to purchase, as Mahomet's parents and friends will be cooking and working hard to make it a success!  So come on out and enjoy some good food as well as a great game!
