Mahomet-Seymour 35 Pontiac 14

This past Friday night, Mahomet-Seymour took it to Pontiac beating them on both sides of the ball. Mahomet had to overcome two turnovers in Pontiac territory, in which they did to run away with the game 35-14.

Mahomet opened the game with a sound running attack, pounding the ball at Pontiac's defense. M-S got to Pontiac's 30, and Andrew Brewer coughed up the ball and Pontiac recovered the ball. This happened on M-S's first two possessions, but M-S's defense was on their A game containing Pontiac's offense all night.

After the first two mishaps by Andrew Brewer, he came back and ran the ball well all night. Andrew Brewer finished the game with 18 carries for 195 yards, one of which he broke for 93 yards putting M-S on top in the second quarter 14-0. M-S's offensive line blocked well all night long, opening up holes for the posse at RB.  Spenser Williams, Bob Schroeder, and Robert Fetzer ran the ball extremely well; and Robert Fetzer broke one for a 75 yard touchdown to seal the deal for M-S early in the fourth quarter to extend M-S's lead to 35-6. Also, a shout out needs to go out to M-S's offensive line: Jon McComb, Andrew Griffeth, Marcus Robinson, Zach Ochs, Zach Bansner, Jim Johnston, Ethan King, Cody Bebout, and Charles Miller.

M-S's defense was tough all night, not allowing a point until late in the fourth quarter. Pontiac's only other score was on a kickoff return late in the second quarter. M-S's defense line, secondary, and linebackers played well all night containing Pontiac's skilled players. M-S was tested early, backed up to their own end zone, before forcing a crucial fumble on M-S's 7 yard line. After that, M-S dominated the game and capitalizing on Pontiac's mistakes. Pontiac's center snapped the ball over the qb's head at least three times for the game, allowing M-S to keep them from reaching the end zone. And again, a shout out needs to go to M-S's frontline: Zach Ochs, Zach Bansner, Cody Bebout, Alex Georgiou, Dusty Baker, Spenser Williams, Derek Trinkle, and Bob Schroeder.

M-S played well in their first true contest of the year, and now is 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the tough Corn Belt Conference. Next week, M-S faces off with another ranked opponent, facing Rochester at their place. Rochester coming into last weeks game, was Ranked 4th in class 4A.
