The Encounter Community (Old Post Office Building)

A little over a month ago, a small group of people from Mahomet got together and talked about starting a church.  The group involved Joey and Angie Gruner, Matt and Kristina Robinson, Todd Reese, Brett Behrens, and Pam Quinlan.  This small group of people envisioned a community that would love everyone the same, no matter what their situation was.  We called our community, The Encounter Community.  For those of you living in Mahomet, we had an article in last weeks Mahomet Citizen.  It was three pages long, and the lady who wrote it did a fantastic job getting our message across to those in search of a place to be apart of something bigger than what we live in everyday.

The Encounter Community is a place for those who have been rejected by the modern day church or for those who do not feel connected to a church.  We want our community to be strong and be connected together in a way that none of the current churches are doing today.  We also want to partner up with the churches in the Mahomet area and come together to build a stronger community.  That is one item that we feel that churches should want to do.  Churches need to work together instead of competing with each other on how many members they get for their respected churches.  The Encounter Community believes in one kingdom, and that is Gods kingdom.  We all need to be working together and bring glory to God as one voice.  We all might have different opinions on certain topics, but we all need to have the same belief that we need to show love to everyone and relay the message about Jesus Christ.  That is the most important message we need to reiterate in the church today.  Love was one of Jesus important messages that need to be applied in todays society.  People of all ages need love, and a lot of people out there today are not getting the right kind of love that is needed to have a relationship with Jesus.  MTV and all those other television shows are portraying a life style built on deception, greed and lust.  It is up to each community to reach out and show them what life is all about.  It is not about all of those things, it is about making people feel connected to a community of people who believe in the same thing, and that is Gods love for all of us.

I just wanted to relay the message about our community.  We have services every Sunday at 6:30 pm., and we just completed our second services of the year last Sunday.  There are about 30-40 people that have attended the past two weeks, and we are very excited to have them in our community.  Please, if you do not have a church home, please stop in and see whats going on at Encounter.  Also, for those parents with kids in Junior High, we will be starting a mentoring/tutoring program after school on Tuesdays and Thursday every week from 3:20-5:15 pm.  If you have any questions about this program, please call me, Matt Robinson at 217.840-6501 or call Joey Gruner at 217.649.3399.  We are just getting started with it and we hope it is a huge success.

Thanks for reading this piece and I hope your week goes well.  God Bless!
