Mahomet-Seymour 14 Normal U-High 21

Friday at ISU stadium was probably the most frustrating evening I have had in quite some time. Mahomet did everything in their power to control their own destiny, but the refs had a different idea on how the night was going to play out.  All night long, Mahomet was out numbered 16-11, thats right, 16 to 11.  The refs blew the game and made the most atrocious calls I have seen in quite some time.  I am going to wrap this up and give a little talk about next weeks playoff match-up between Quincy Notre Dame, but something has to be said about the performance of the refs, and the lackluster play of Mahomets special teams and offensive play calling.

First, the refs were horrible.  Okay, we are over that.  Second, the special team was not so special.  Mahomet got a three and out, and then blocked the punt which didnt go past the first down line, our player touched it, they recovered and the refs awarded them a first down.  That was bonehead play one. Second, we held them again on the same possession, which was the first possession of the game, and they punted it and they blocked our guy into the ball and they recovered it, and the refs awarded them the ball again.  We stopped them, but with those two calls U-High had the ball pretty much the whole first quarter.  Then, sometime in the second quarter, U-High kicks it short and it hits our front line of the kickoff team and they recover it.  Special teams not being so special. Lastly, in the third quarter U-High punts the ball to our return man and he muffs the kick and they recover it.  Now, this cannot happen and we will lose by 30 next week if our special team is not so special.

Second, the play calling was not very good as well.  It has been a problem all year and hopefully the play calling will get better for playoffs next week, but I seriously doubt it.  Teams are going to put 8 or 9 guys in the box, and we need to come at them with something different to throw them for a loop, and it is not happening and we are doing the same dang thing every game.  Change it up and Mahomet is not a pro style offense at all, it is High School, so call what works not what a balanced offense should call.  Alright, hopefully next week will be better because it does cost us games when our play calling is not up to par.

Lastly, we got Quincy Notre Dame in the first round. They have been pretty much our rivals in the playoffs, and the past few seasons Mahomet has squared off with the team splitting the match-up 1-1.  There is more to come on this game later this week, but I hope Mahomets players are ready to play, because Friday night it seemed that all the boys had their heads up their butts!!  Come ready to play or your season is over, and for you seniors, it will be the last game for most of you, so let ROLL!

One last shout out needs to go #83, who dislocated his hip Friday night. We hope you are feeling well and we will be praying for a speedy recover.  Get well Blake!

GO BULLDOGS!
