2006 will see several new teams enter the varsity level of football this year. Some like South Elgin & Plainfield North will be new in every sport. Others like Athens will be fielding their first ever varsity team in football, while they've had other sports at varsity levels for years.

Vote for which team you feel will finish with the best record out of the newbies.

Met some really nice kids wearing Athens football jerseys at the state fair on Saturday. Not sure how they are going to do but they get my vote. Go Athens!!!

Looking at Plainfield North's schedule, they seem to me to be a toss up game from making the playoffs.  The all junior and lower team should come up with wins against Oswego East, Minooka, Joliet Twp., and Romeoville.  I think that the key game will be against Plainfield Central and Central hasn't been real good when the chips are down.   Dan Darlington's Juniors will be playing like Seniors in the final regular season game against Central.

I agree with CCFan on this one. Plainfield North will be a load this year. They have some very big boys out for the team. Playoffs may be streching it a bit, but it could happen with the Dan Darlington coached team.

For me it would be either Plainfield North or Seton

It is going to be a long year for Seton, that is if they can actually field a team this season. The open up against CICS-Longwood who was a playoff qualifier in 1A last season. In week 2 they face off against 5A runner-up Rock Island Alleman. The schedule gets no easier after as in week 3 they get Chicago Christian, week 7 they get Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton, week 8 they face small school power house Tolono Unity, and in week 9 they face Walther Lutheran who is a quality team. Like I said before Seton is in for a very long year.

Brian, I've heard nothing about Seton having a stud or two on the team, so if you've got a little bit of insider info for me, I'll be checking my inbox.

Seton has some talented athletes, but the are on the basketball court not the football field.
