week 7 Big 30 discussion.

I find it difficult to believe that the #13 team drops six places after a come from behind 6 point loss to the #1 team in state. That insenuates that teams ranked #2 through #18 would beat the #1 team doesnt it?

Bones great question. I'll give you an honest answer.

Bolingbrook is a good team. East is a really good team, I'm not going to say they're great though. I do think LWE's defense was playing 110% and their offense was more around 85%, but that D is what is going to help them win every time. LWE's turned the ball over 4 times, I don't see that happening every game. (Mt. Carmel did the same thing in week 1 vs. Joliet Catholic, JC is no longer ranked, even though they came close to winning).

I felt that the Brook threw everything they had at East on the offensive side and they only came away with 7. I seen this game more as LWE shooting themselves in the foot than the Brook almost coming through in a nail biter.

I will say this. Dale Martin's helmetless run was the most exciting play I've seen since I started this web site in 1999.

Second part of that questions.

I've always felt that once a team is ranked it shows they have a better chance of taking down a top team. The rankings really just show that if the supposed teams were to meet, since not all of them do, which one may be more likely to win.

There are 550 teams in the state, a top 30 is really just a drop in the bucket. Truthfully it should be a top 50, but I don't have that much time. Even if you take out half of those teams for being either to small or not having a good program, it's still no where as ight as college where there are only 117 teams.

It's also why some teams stay in even after losing to a team that wasn't ranked. see Hubbard, Mt. Prospect & Brother Rice. I try to do the best job I can with the info I have usually it's pretty close. Sometimes, it's off. The Brook won't get another shot at LWE, but you can bet that a few of the other ranked teams will and yes, I think they can be beat.
