What are your favorite first round match ups?

Just putting the brackets up on the site. I'm already circling several games across all 8 classes that I want to see.

I'm not sure if the IHSA has a sense of humor or if the numbers just worked out that rivals such as Geneseo vs Rochelle, Joliet Catholic vs Morris, Loyola vs. New Trier, Homewood-Floosmoor vs. Marian Catholic happened to be meeting in the first round?

Morris vs. JCA is the best first round game, followed by the Loyola vs. New Trier game.

I really like the Mahomet-Seymour-Breese Mater Dei Matchup.

I was suprised to see JCA and Morris too, I actually felt bad for Normal having to face the winner of that game.

What are Simeon's chances in the first round? I'd sure like to see them play Oswego.

Have to say Mooseheart and Cambridge

I am afraid  the Ramblers will have thier work cut out for them as the Vikings average 350 yards per game on the ground. Moosehearts key to success would lie with a strong defense.

My son plays for Mooseheart and my oldest played for Stark County who has been one of Cambridge's rivals. Stark County however handed Cambridge thier only loss for this season.

Either way should be a great game to see.

I think Simeon could have an upset if they don't shoot themselves in the foot with penalties. This team is 6-3 after going through what is most likely the best CPL conference. Their 3 losses were to top ranked Bolingbrook, Fenwick and a surprise by the always tough Morgan Park mustangs. The took down top ranked Hubbard and Lane Tech, who is still a good team even though they are having an off year at 6-3.

I haven't seen Prairie Ridge, but I've got their stats. They've racked up 2500 yards rushing mostly from Sam Campbell (1238 yrds 16 TDs), but just 661 passing.

Zack Zuidema is their leading tackler (73 total, 6 TFL)

Simeon vs. Prairie Ridge - All depends on which PR team shows up. The "good" team beat Jacobs (7A), McHenry (7A) and Crystal Lake Central (6A), all 6-3 playoff teams. The "bad" team lost to Huntley (5-4) and got crushed by Cary-Grove (9-0). The key is containing "Soop" Campbell; he averaged over 130 yds/game, but C-G held him to 27. If the good PR shows up, it'll be a real battle.

Thanks for the knowledge.  I have been wanting to see the Big Guy play all year and couldn't get to Bolingbrook.  If Simeon and Oswego both win, will the game be in Oswego or Chicago?

I will probably follow a lot of that bracket since, Oswego, Batavia and Geneva are all in it.

The best football and basketball player in the state both go to Simeon.

A game between Simeon and Oswego would be played in Chicago. Because Simeon is the lower seed and is playing away this week, they would be rewarded with a home game if they win. If Vernon Hills somehow manages to upset Oswego, Simeon would still be the home team as the higher seed. Bottom line, if Simeon wins this week, they play at home next week.

I figured it would be at Simeon, because Oswego always seems to play there second round games on the road and they typically are a higher seed.

Isn't the actually rule determined by how many home games each has had throughout the season?  the lower amount gets the game.

The www.ihsa.org site has the rules for who gets home field advantage for each game.  The best seed gets 1st round home field, but after that it goes to whomever has hosted the fewest playoff games in the current year's playoffs.  In situations where there are ties (each has hosted the same number of home games in the playoffs), the best seed gets home field advantage.  There ARE situations where a neutral site may be used if OK'd by both teams and IHSA.  If anyone sees a mistake with what I've regurgitated here, please let us know!  I'm going from memory...

Congrats to McHenry county, sending 7 teams to the playoffs this year!

Northern Border, you got it, dead on! Good luck to the Green Giants against Polo (!? - where are they from?) Missing34, Based on the above info, if Prairie Ridge (home game) beats Simeon, Oswego would host PR since they have an equal # of home playoff games (1) and Oswego is the higher seed. In theory, it's simple; if every game is won by the higher seed, the highest seed - #1 - would play every game at home through the semifinals. It starts to get more complicated when lower seeds win. The rules are slightly different if the class is divided into quadrants; that only happened in 2A and 3A this year.

Thanks.  BTW - Polo is from Polo, it's near Dixon and Sterling.
