Who's your 2006 Top team

Aug 9th was the first day of official practice for many teams across the state. While some teams might not have an idea of how things are shaping up until later this month, many of you already have your own opinions. Well post them here.

Give us your top team, either in the state, class, conference or local area. Tell us why you think they are a team to watch and how far they'll go in the playoffs.

Only 15 more days till kick off. Are you ready?

In the Interstate 8. The favorites have to be Coal City, Plano and Wilmington in the small. Reed Custer in the big.

The Chicago Catholic League Blue Division will once again be a three team race with the Mt. Carmel Caravan, St. Rita Mustangs, and Brother Rice Crusaders.

I think Mt.Carmel will take top honors in the CCL Blue with Rita in second, and Rice taking 3rd, but anything can happen in the CCL Blue. Also don't count out Providence.

Very true indeed.  Though it will be quite strange to NOT see Matt Sneffner on the sidelines for the Celtics this season.    Kinda sad to see him go.

I talked to Coach Sneffner early last season, had a real nice conversation about the Celtic Mascot. Coach Sneffner was a really nice guy to talk with. He will be missed on the sideline this year.

Most of the Coaches in the CCL are very good and fun to work with.  I've had nothing but fun since I took this on in 2002 when I went started with Rice full time.  And I have seen some GREAT games

MC, Rita, and Rice will only be separated by as many as two losses.  These are the top three I believe in the CCL Blue

I'm in Texas and am interested in why you have picked these 3 players.

well, Mt. Carmel, St. Rita and Br. Rice are three CCL teams that I have followed since 1998 due to my covering the CCL on a play by play basis. Providence has also been there.  So, I am just a little biased, but also I have followed these teams for a while

Lockport Township Porters are walking away with the title this year. They are 2-0 without giving up ONE TOUCHDOWN. Their main reciever Curtis Cozzi has 5 TDs. The Defense is amazing and their offense is stacked. Look to see Lockport in the playoffs this year.

SouthWest Suburban Blue: LWE or The Brook. LWE gets the nod, but The Brook has been holding on to the ball so far and has sufficiently replaced ALL 18 starters and looks to have the potential to be better than last year. When the two play, something will have to give between the Griffins ungiving run defense which hasnt given up a single yard yet (actually -8) and the Raiders dynamic rushing offense which is more than just Martin.

Half way thru I can tell you that 3 teams from the Central State 8 will go deep into the playoffs. They are Taylorville,Springfield SHG and Chatham Glenwood. I also like Metamora but from a weak conference and has not played anyone yet as is true for SHG other than this weekend facing Glenwood in a real test for both.
