Dan Darlington

Apparently the game I attended on Friday will be Darlington's last at Plainfield North, because of the supsension he incurred earlier this week for recruiting players outside of district 202, which led to the suspension of some players and the school being put on 2 years playoff probation.  For those of you that don't know, even though PN is a new team just starting Varsity play, it is not inconceivable that they could make the playoffs within those two seasons.  The district is nestled in between the talent rich Nequa Valley and Oswego school districts.

My biggest beef is with the IHSA stating in yesterday's Sun Times that Darlington can still coach elsewhere.  That's Bull.  He comes in recruits players from other districts including Morris and gets caught.  So what does the IHSA do, disciplines the school, but not the coach.  That's pathetic and once again proves to me the IHSA never has the student athlete's best interests in mind.

hey,

i also was at the game and hope he quits coaching forever.  and i dont think anyone else will hire a cheater. but your right it makes no sence to suspend him from PN them tell him he can coach elswhere. but then again the ihsa lets private schools do just about anything they want when it comes to recruiting but slaps public schools for even talking to kids.

I did read today that Plainfield North can get reinstated for participating in some sort of class to educate them about these issues.   Which I think is fair, since the principal (which I later read today in the Sun-times) played a part in the violations.

I'm working on a news story and from the info I've gotten from the IHSA I do not beleive that he can represent any IHSA school for the rest o fteh school year.

Check back on the front page, will have more tommorrow.

I think the biggest part of this whole story is the irony that Darrlington was in loud opposistion to private schools, because of recruiting. If I can get a quote, from the paper that I beleieve printed it, he spoke out big time on recruiting after loosing to Joliet Catholic in 1990.

Yes you are correct, he is suspended for the rest of this year, but the team was suspended from post season play for two years.  I do not believe in HS football you get many coaches that are fired during the season and therefore not many are hired during the season either.

It's just seems wrong to me that the kids got a longer punishment than the guy that brought the allegations against them.
